Valve World Americas Expo & Conference 2021 a Resounding Success

The Valve World Americas Expo & Conference, held in Houston, TX, October 13 – 14 2021, successfully brought together flow control experts, manufacturers, end users, distributors and industry professionals to share knowledge, discuss new technical innovations, and plan for future success. The expo and conference attracted more than 3,000 participants.

The first Valve World Americas Expo & Conference was held in 2011 in the Woodlands and the event has since become one of the most important flow control events in the United States. One of the pillars of the event’s success is innovation and adaptability, a quality shared by the entire valve industry. Sponsored by Bonney Forge, Bray, Cameron – a Schlumberger company, Crane, MRC Global, Neway, Quadax, and Velan, this year's expo and conference celebrated its 10- year anniversary.  Over the course of two days, attendees were eager to explore everything on offer and finally do business in person again.

The two-day conference kicked off with a keynote speech by Dan DeVine, Valve Technology and Piping Materials Consultant for Corteva Agriscience through Midland Engineering, who discussed the Importance of Developing Relationships in the Valve Industry. Rob Saltiel, President & CEO of MRC Global, followed with the second keynote address about Navigating a Changing Market. Afterwards, conference attendees were able to explore five parallel streams with the following sessions: Upstream

– Valve Selection; Midstream – Valve Selection; Downstream – Valve Selection; and Fugitive Emissions – ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance). A Spanish Language session was offered throughout the event and open to all attendees, designed to welcome the Spanish-speaking members of the community to participate in the conference.

The event’s second day began with the keynote address from Bronson Pate of TRICORD Consulting on Fenceline Monitoring and Real-time Mobile Air Monitoring for Fugitive Emissions. Tim Goedeker, Senior Principal Environmental Consultant - HSE - Refining at Phillips 66 delivered a keynote address on the Industrial Revolution 2.0 about the industry’s Sustainable Journeys to Zero. Again, several sessions were offered to conference delegates, featuring various topics such as: an IOGP Overview and highly anticipated panel discussion on IOGP featuring representatives from Chevron, bp, MRC Global, ConocoPhillips, Sunbelt Supply, ExxonMobil and several other companies. Other sessions included: Fugitive Emissions – ESG; Actuation and Automation; Pipeline Valves and Large Components; Fugitive Emissions – Monitoring and Testing. In addition, afternoon panel discussions were also hosted on several topics such as: Maintenance and Turnarounds; Control Valves; Strategies to Minimize Fugitive Emissions. Sessions on Upstream, Midstream, Downstream & Fugitive Emissions – Emerging Technologies presented interesting and new product innovations currently being developed for the valve sector.

The exhibitors featured new product technology and industry achievements. One exhibitor shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We thought Valve World was absolutely wonderful. We were so looking forward to getting back to in-person events, and this did not disappoint.”

Another exhibitor added: “Being a part of the panel discussions was really beneficial. They were very informative for us as a manufacturer this year – and it is great to have our end users and our distribution partners here to all get together. It is always a great experience.”

One day prior to the Expo & Conference, a day of educational courses was held on October 12th, which included the Industrial Valves Course, the Industrial Valves Master Class, Fugitive Emissions Course, and the Pipeline Valves Course featuring several valve subject experts as instructors including former conference chairman and valve industry legend, Ron Merrick (formerly of Fluor).

Following the event, on October 15th, the Valve World Americas Golf Tournament sponsored by MRC Global, VALVITALIA, Newmans, FBV Inc. and A-T Controls took place at the Golf Club of Houston where industry professionals could connect and unwind.  The next Valve World Americas Expo & Conference will return to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX on June 7th-8th, 2023. For more information, please visit: www.valveworldexpoamericas.com
