Numerical simulations help to understand and illustrate what is going on inside the metal. The thus obtained knowledge can be used to enhance the forming pro- cesses. Koos van Putten: “We have already achieved a great deal. But
there are still exciting challenges ahead of us. We will be getting more comprehensive results increasingly faster due to the con- stant rise in computing capacity and the ever better performance of software programs. The objec- tive to develop new spray head designs based on FE simulations of the heat distribution in forging dies is a good example of how technologies complement each other, how they interact and how they can create new added value.“
