use of waste heat, which can be signi cantly improved by thermal storage.
“In the temperature range of over 140°C, around 12 percent of the industrial nal energy require- ment could be saved by using waste heat, in the range between 60°C and 140°C still 6 percent. In absolute gures, these are enormous amounts of energy. In addition, industrial waste heat can also be used to heat houses. Here we even come up with a potential of 45 percent of Ger- many’s heating energy demand, which corresponds to a possible saving of 55 million tons of CO2 per year,” says Dr. Andreas Hauer of the Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research (ZAE).
In his presentation at the Energy Storage Expo Forum, Dr. Hauer will present thermal storage solu- tions that are already being used successfully in industry. These include a technology that reduces waste heat losses during the cleaning and drying of metal com- ponents by more than 50 percent. The savings are made possible by
combining a hot water cylinder heated with exhaust air with a heat pump that can recover almost all the heat from the exhaust air.
About ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE 2019|Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre
ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE is the trade fair for the global energy storage industry with a focus on applications and energy systems. The parallel international con- ferences offer the world’s largest conference program for all energy storage technologies. They include the 8th ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE Conference (ESE) of Messe Düs- seldorf and the 13th Interna- tional Renewable Energy Storage Conference (IRES) of EUROSOLAR e.V. The main topics are econom- ics and nance (ESE) as well as science and social policy (IRES). In 2018, the fair grew to around 4,500 visitors from 61 countries. 170 exhibitors presented them- selves. www.eseexpo.com
The Bright World of Metals
The GIFA (International Foundry Trade Fair), METEC (International Metallurgical Trade Fair), THER-
MPROCESS (International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermo Process Technology) and NEWCAST (International Trade Fair for Cast- ings) are a set of four interna- tional technology trade fairs and will be held across 14 halls from 25 to 29 June 2019. It is expected that they will receive over 2,000 exhibitors and around 78,000 visitors. Casting products, foundry technology, metallurgy and thermo processing techniques will be shown to the world over the course of ve days in the capital of the Rhine region. The trade fairs are accompanied by a high-quality program includ- ing seminars, international con- gresses and series of lectures.
