Review: Dorp 2018
Dorp 2018
Dorp 2018 – Dortmund
IUL –Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Components
IUL was established at the Tech- nical University of Dortmund in 1971 as the LFU, few years after the establishment of the univer- sity, and has been integral to the scientific advancement ever since. Currently under the direc- tion of Prof. A.E. Tekkaya, IUL continues since to conduct fun- damental research along with the development of new technologies to expand the boundaries of tradi- tional forming processes.
DORP - Dortmund colloquium of Tube- Profile forming
The initiation of the Dortmund Colloquium for Tube and Profile Forming took place on the Novem- ber 22nd, 2005 by the institute’s former director Prof. Matthias Kleiner. The driving force for this endeavour were the entreaties and positive responses to the survey by the industrial research institutions. Subsequently, an event with a balanced focus between research and practical applications was envisioned and realized. For the past 13 years, DORP has been the spearhead in the presentation of the current developments in the field and has provided a comprehensive preview of the future trends, thus high- lighting the needs of research.
The Seventh Dortmund Col- loquium on tube and profile forming
The seventh Dortmund Colloquium for Tube and Profile Forming was held on the 11th and 12th of
September 2018. The event com- menced with a reception at the grand Signal Iduna Stadium and an enthralling address by Prof. Tolan. IUL welcomed the guests from the industrial and academic circles to the colloquium on the 12th September. The gathering comprised of more than 75 par- ticipants and 4 companies with exhibits to form a learned forum of users, manufacturers and scien- tists to discuss topics related to tube and profile forming. Further- more, eight presentations from the industry and four from the sci- entific community covered inno- vative topics on new processes, extending the process bounda- ries, new sensor technologies and Industry 4.0. The wide variety of topics and approaches demon- strates the versatility of current research and the steadily increas- ing demands from the industry and the scientific community with respect to the understanding and networking of the production processes. The DORP serves as a platform to enable such knowl- edge exchange and collaboration between the industry and the uni- versity, a need also highlighted in the current edition.
