Safely Successful in Singapore

All the circumstances which have stilted the expansion in size and attendances at the ‘wire and Tube Singapore’ exhibitions during the past six years have perhaps finally been overcome. It is not that these ‘All Asia Trade Fairs’ do not have their rightful place and time slot in the market area but. like other events they also have suffered from primarily economic, and then external ecological, terrorist and epidemic influences coinciding with their two year cycle since 1997.

When ‘wire and Tube Singapore’ closed its doors on the 25th September 2003, the majority of the exhibitors were reporting a satisfactory result and a quiet satisfaction of the quality of the well over 4000 visitor attendance. It was generally acknowledged that, just maybe, the jinxes surrounding the previous three shows have now been finally exorcised and ‘wire and Tube Singapore’ have re-established their rightful position as the major international exhibitions for these industries in the S E Asia/Asia Pacific Region.

Certainly there is no safer haven in Asia, or perhaps the world, in which to stage an international exhibition and inspire exhibitor and visitor confidence. The infrastructure, facilities, security and services in Singapore have long since been internationally acknowledged as being in the ‘world class’ category.

With over 280 exhibitors from 29 countries ‘wire and Tube Singapore’ made a substantial representation of the technology, materials and equipment available to these essential industry sectors. Visitors from the neighbouring countries inevitably overwhelmed those from the tiny island of Singapore, and quite rightly so, as these Trade Shows are for the entire Asia region. Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, India and Indonesia represented the strongest visitor groups who pleased many of the exhibitors with machinery and material purchases direct from their exhibition stands. Those exhibitors are now already confirming their participation at ‘wire and Tube Singapore 2005’ so as to keep their position in this rich market area.

The up- beat attitude of exhibitor and visitor response at ‘wire and Tube Singapore 2003’ reflects the economic improvement in certain Asia nations and has provided a confidence in the future expansion of business opportunities in this area. The substantial increase in the number of exhibitors from Asian nations was further positive recognition of the increasing importance of ‘wire and Tube Singapore’. Excellently organised by Messe Duesseldorf Asia Ltd, and sponsored by the International Wire and Machinery Association (IWMA) and IWCEA as well as ACIMAF Italy on ‘wire’, and the International Tube Association (ITA) with its membership of Tube and Pipe Engineers in over 60 countries on ‘Tube’, the continued expansion of these all important trade shows, when they are repeated in Singapore in the autumn of 2005, appears to be one of the more certain prospects in this volatile global market.
