REPORT
International Tube Association - 28th AGM - Chairman’s Report for 2006/7
Our last AGM was held in April 2006 during Tube Düsseldorf 2006 exhibition, where visitors from all over the world had a great platform to communicate. It is the world’s largest tube show of its kind, supported by the ITA and organised by Messe Düsseldorf. The first winner of our newly instituted John C. Hogg Lifetime Achievement Award, our current Honorary Treasurer John Metcalfe, received the trophy during the ITA’s industry lunch on 26th April 2006, during the exhibition.
Tube Düsseldorf was a very successful show for the ITA, with a huge number enquiries at our stand and more than 50 new member applications. We had a similar experience at Tube China 2006, in September in Shanghai and the very first Tube Arabia show in Dubai this January. The next shows for this reporting period being supported by ITA are Tube Russia, Moscow, Tubotech, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Tube Southeast Asia in Bangkok. Our Indian management board is already busy with the upcoming show in 2008 – Tube India 2008 now re-located in New Delhi from Hyderabad.
Whilst there were no major conferences organised by ITA in the reporting period (after the success of tube 05 Prague) we have been busily engaged in planning our major conference from 24-26 September, Tube Ukraine International 2007, in Dnepropetrovsk. The conference is organised in co-operation with the Ukraine Tube Association Ukrtruboprom and has attracted a phenomenal number of speakers. The timetable includes more than 60 international speakers in two adjacent conference rooms.
In June 2007 there will also be a Joint Symposium, Nagoya Tube 2007, organised with the Roll Forming Research Committee of the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP). I am also happy to announce a tube conference in Houston, Texas, which is being jointly organised by TPA (the American Tube and Pipe Association) and the ITA. Thanks to both our North American and Asian Pacific Management Boards for their dedication to these projects.
I am very pleased to be able to report that ITA is being represented from now on in China. Discussions with Mr. Ding, chairman of China Cold Roll Forming Association (CCRSA) resulted in an agreement for his association to represent the ITA in China. At a ceremony during Tube China last September, hosted by Mr. Ding and his deputy, Professor Liu, I had the honour to welcome newly recruited Chinese members to the ITA.
I would like to thank all officers of the ITA and members of the various management boards and Technical Management Committee for their dedication to the ITA and their support. Thanks also to the Secretariat and Intras for all their assistance through this very busy year.

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT
COMMITTEE REPORT
TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT (TMC) 2006/2007
Chairman: Stephen Loynes
Committee: Albert Sedlmaier, John Metcalfe, Carl Jackson, John Powell, Mike Bull.
As the new Chairman I am mindful of the importance of the role of the TMC in the International Tube Association in bringing to members and a wider audience, conferences, seminars, and speakers, who can provide up to date technology, new experiences, findings, and developments for all aspects of tube making and usage, in all materials.
While some information is now readily available on the Internet nothing replaces the human interaction of the technical speaker with a receptive and knowledgeable audience. We have seen this success in the past in many parts of the world and 2007 will be no exception. 2007 will see 4 technical events jointly organised by the ITA with other interested organisations.
Nagoya Tube, Japan,18-20th June 2007.
“Advanced Materials and Processing for Innovative Tube Making and Forming”
This symposium is organised by the Asia Pacific Board of the ITA in conjunction with the Roll Forming Committee of the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity. This is the second time the ITA has been involved in a conference in Japan. Professor Kiuchi, President of the ITA will ensure that this conference will again be ground breaking and successful. Nagoya is the home of Toyota and this will be a significant event for the automotive industry.
Pipe & Tube Houston, Houston, USA. 9-12th September 2007.
“Seamless and Welded Technology for Global Markets”
On this occasion the conference is organised by the North American Board of the ITA together with the Tube and Pipe Association, USA and planning is well advanced. Houston is a very good location for such an event and we expect a strong response from the American tube and pipe industry.
Tube Ukraine International, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, 24/25th September 2007.
“Modern Production Trends for Tubes & Pipes – Welded, Seamless and Non-Ferrous.”
This conference has been organised by the Ukraine Tube Association in conjunction with the ITA. This is the first such conference in this very important and major tube producing area of the world. The quality and depth of the papers reflects their technical prowess. There has been serious interest in this event that will prove to be a very special introduction for the ITA to this part of our tube world.
Non-Ferrous Bangkok, Thailand, 17th October 2007.
“Latest Developments in Non Ferrous Wire and Tube Technology”
This seminar is a jointly organised by the International Wire & Machinery Association (IWMA) and the ITA. It is the first time there has been a joint venture with the IWMA and the first ONLY Non Ferrous Seminar. Wire/Tube Southeast Asia exhibitions are taking place during the time of the seminar.
The success of these technical occasions is important for our industry, not only for their content but also to enable like-minded practitioners time for discussion, and an exchange of ideas that enables the industry to move forward. I should like to thank all those involved in organising, chairing, speaking and sponsoring these vital events.
