ITA CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 2007/2008

International Tube Association - 29th AGM - Chairman’s Report for 2007/8

Our last AGM was held in May 2007 during Tube Russia in Moscow, where not only visitors from Russian speaking countries but also international attendees had a great platform to communicate.

When this AGM takes place the world’s largest tube exhibition – Tube Düsseldorf 2008 - will have opened its gates. It is supported by the ITA and organised by Messe Düsseldorf and this year’s event is also the largest Tube exhibition ever. Strong demand emanates from important consumers of precision steel tubes like the automotive and machine building industry and forecasts anticipate even growing demand for several areas of tubes.

The reporting period has been a very busy one as regards conferences organised by the ITA:
Nagoya Tube 2007 symposium in June in Japan – co-organised by the Asian Pacific Board of the ITA and the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP); Pipe & Tube Houston 07 in USA, jointly arranged by our North American Management Board with the Tube and Pipe Association, USA; our major biennial tube conference Tube Ukraine 2007 in Dnepropetrovsk in late September, a two-day conference organised by the Ukraine Tube Association in conjunction with the ITA and a very successful event, allowing the delegates to share their expertise with international participants and vice versa.

Last but not least I have to mention Non-Ferrous Bangkok, a one-day seminar on non-ferrous wire and tube technology in Thailand on the occasion of Tube SE Asia exhibition (sponsored by the ITA and organised by Messe Düsseldorf Asia. These technical events organised by ITA are a unique platform to share information and establish deeper or new contacts between industry specialists. Thanks to all members of our international management boards for their dedication to these projects.

ITA has been represented now for more than one year in China. Due to the active promotion of our Chinese partner, the China Cold Roll Forming Association (CCRSA), chaired by Mr. Ding, we are increasing our local membership substantially.

With regard to tube shows in 2007 I want to highlight two important locations on the world tube map: firstly the new exhibition “Tekno/ Tube Arabia” which took place in January 2007 in Dubai, co-organised by Messe Düsseldorf and supported by ITA was a great success in helping to build up contacts for both exhibitors and visitors in the Arabian area and secondly “Tubotech” in Sao Paulo, Brazil in October, which attracted a huge number of exhibitors to the growing South American and Brazilian tube market.

I would like to thank all officers of the ITA and members of the various management boards and Technical Management Committee for their dedication to the ITA and their support. Thanks also to the Secretariat and Intras for all their assistance through this very busy year.

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT (TMC) 2007/2008

Chairman: Stephen Loynes
Committee: Albert Sedlmaier, John Metcalfe, Carl Jackson, John Powell, Mike Bull.

2007 was very busy but extremely successful for technical events, with two in Asia, one in the USA and one in Europe, so we have reached a wide audience and almost everyone should have had an opportunity to enjoy these occasions.

However, by comparison 2008 will be quieter. We had a one-day conference, Pipe Dream India 2008 in New Delhi in February with twelve speakers and of course there is our biennial Düsseldorf exhibition in March/April to keep everyone in touch. The make up of our TMC and its activities on behalf of the ITA has changed little since its inception. During 2008 we will take the time to examine how this committee can help in new ways and therefore be more effective for the ITA.

Nagoya Tube 2007, “Advanced Materials and Processes for Innovative Tube & Pipe Making & Forming”, Japan, 18-20 June
A symposium that was co-organised by the Asia Pacific Board of the ITA and the Roll Forming Committee of the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity. ITA President Professor Kiuchi organised an excellent venue and a fascinating spread of subjects over two days. The symposium lived up to the high standard set in previous years of our co-operation in Japan.

Pipe and Tube Houston 07, “Seamless and Welded Technology for Global Markets”, USA 9-12 September
This conference was jointly organised very well by the North American Board of the ITA and the Tube & Pipe Association, USA, with a good variety of speakers and attendees making this event a great success. America is the only place in the tube world where the ITA has round table technical discussions.

Tube Ukraine International 2007, “Modern Production Trends for Tubes and Pipes-Welded, Seamless and Non Ferrous”, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, 24-25 September
The Ukraine conference was the first event for the ITA and our partner Ukrtruboprom, the Ukrainian Tube Association in this very important and influential part of the tube world. Everyone was very pleased with the high standard and depth of the technical content. I am sure this will be the first of many events in the Ukraine.

Non-Ferrous Bangkok, “Latest developments in Non Ferrous wire and Tube Technology”, Thailand 17 October 2007
This co-organised seminar run by the ITA and the International Wire & Machinery Association, their first co-operative venture since the joint conference in Prague in 2005, was the very first purely non-ferrous event in which we have been involved. This was a very special first and I am sure there will be many more.

The success of these conferences is an enormous addition to our knowledge of the tube industry and is greatly helped by our Chairmen, speakers, and of course our sponsors who all play a very important part. If members were unable to attend any of these events copies of proceedings or individual papers are available from the Secretariat.
