Professor Hugh Sansome Trophy winner for Düsseldorf 2008
Every two years at its annual general meeting and members’ lunch the ITA makes an award to the speaker from one of its conferences during the past two years, who, in the opinion of the Papers Awards Sub Committee, has made the best presentation.
The Professor Hugh Sansome Trophy is named after a founder member of the ITA who played a significant role in the running of its Technical Management Committee (TMC), which is responsible for the planning of all the Association’s conferences.
For the 2008 award there were more than 130 papers presented at technical events in Nagoya, Houston, Dnipropetrovsk and Bangkok, from which to choose.
The Papers Award Sub Committee decided that in view of the very large number of papers presented since Düsseldorf 2006 that there would be one major award, the Sansome trophy and two additional awards.
The winners, who were presented with their awards at the lunch on 2 April 2008 by the TMC Chairman Steve Loynes were as follows:
Professor Hugh Sansome Trophy:
Kenichi Sasaki, Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd, Japan, “Manufacturing Technology of Medium Size Seamless Pipes”, (Nagoya Tube 2007)
Paper Award:
Mick Nallen, Thermatool Corp, USA, “Seam Annealing of HF Welded API Pipe”, (Pipe & Tube Houston 07)
Paper Award:
Peter Sohler, Kinkelder BV, Netherlands, “Advanced Concepts for High Productivity Tube Cutting” (Nagoya Tube 2007)
At the same ceremony International Executive Management Board member John Powell received the 2008 John C Hogg Lifetime Achievement Award for his long and distinguished service to the ITA.
All the award winning technical papers can be purchased from the ITA as well as all other papers from our extensive library presented at more than 40 conferences since the ITA’s foundation nearly 30 years ago.
