Retirement of ITA Honorary Treasurer
![]() |
John Metcalfe has been a very familiar face at tube events around the world for many years, encompassing the time he was with Tube Investments up to the present day with his consultancy business Tube Technology Ltd. He is possibly best known to ITA members as a long-serving member of the International Executive and European boards of the association as well as holding the office of honorary treasurer since 1988. |
After an amazing twenty one years as treasurer, during which time he has seen the global importance and influence of the ITA grow, John has used his vast experience to considerable effect in overseeing the finances of the association. He has ensured that they remained on a sound basis against a background of a much higher level of activity around the world and the strain on cash resources that this can bring.
At the age of 85 John has decided to retire from both of the boards and as honorary treasurer on 31 December 2009, although as he stressed at the last board meeting he attended he will continue with his Tube Technology business. All fellow officers and board members, as well as the executive secretary wish to place on record their sincere thanks for all his work on behalf of the ITA as treasurer, representing the association at exhibitions and chairing technical sessions at many ITA conferences. In recognition of his services to the ITA John was the first recipient of the John C Hogg Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, when he was made an honorary life member of the association.
Until the next annual general meeting on 14 April 2010, when members will have the opportunity to elect formally a new honorary treasurer the ITA is very grateful to long-standing board member Mike Bull for agreeing to act as acting treasurer from 1 January 2010. Mike lives very close to John in Wolverhampton, UK and will always be welcomed for advice and consultation on ITA financial matters.
