Conference Report
The
International Tube Association’s regional conference “Asia Pacific
Tube 2003”, organised by its Asia Pacific Management
Board, took place on 26 September 2003 in Bangkok, the
day after the end of the Tube Singapore 2003 exhibition. Drawn by an 18 strong panel of expert speakers from around
the world the one day conference attracted 80 participants
from the Asia Pacific region with particularly strong interest
from the Thai tube industry itself.
Conference delegates at Asia Pacific Tube 2003
After a common morning session
that included a keynote address by Wikrom Vajragupta,
the Director of the Iron & Steel
Institute of Thailand, delegates were able to attend either
ferrous or non-ferrous sessions in the afternoon. Non-ferrous
attendees were very pleased to have a rare opportunity
to meet and network with colleagues. They were also able
to hear several high quality presentations including what
was described as “ a truly ground-breaking development” in
the paper ‘On-Line Measurement of Eccentricity of
Extruded Copper Tubes’ by DC Price of CSIRO Telecommunications & Industrial
Physics, Australia.
Not that the ferrous delegates were lacking in high quality
presentations with speakers from Australia, USA, Japan
and Thailand offering 6 papers featuring the latest technology
and developments in the sector.
Following the conference all delegates had the opportunity
to visit either the ferrous tube plant of Able Industries
or the copper tube plant of Outokumpu Hitachi Copper Tubes,
courtesy of Asia Pacific Board members Mr TK Cheung and
Mr M Rantanen respectively.
